RIDM - Nous sommes au cinéma

An experimental sound, video and performative creation from Julie Faubert that unfolds from the very specific context of the Cinéma Moderne screening room in Montreal.

Through sound images, live light framing and projected video sequences, the nature of the image is constantly questioned. Thanks to the interplay of quasi-synesthetic references, it is the dark room itself that is represented, activated, doubled, shifted, disturbed and even mirrored. The cinematographic Dolby Atmos sound diffusion system is used in an unusual way, to the extreme limit of its spatializing potential. Plunged into darkness, the audience experiences the many apparitions that reveal the performers’ poetic use of the space.

This work is the result of several years of in situ creative work at Cinéma Moderne. With the magnificent participation of Alice Blanchet-D., Jane, Jonathan Cantin-Demers, Maxence Croteau, Charles Hurtubise and Antoine Paradis.

Tickets – November 27th, 8:30pm

Full credits and thanks:
The artist would like to sincerely thank the sound manipulators-performers Maroussia Faubert-Bravo, Alice Blanchet-D., Julia Duranleau, Charles Hurtubise, Camille Labranche, Mathieu P. Lapierre and Antoine Paradis who created sounds for this creative project between 2021 and 2024. Huge thanks to the improvisations of violinist Iman Abdul Razzak of which I have kept some notes.

All possible recognition for Jade Fraser and the Cinéma Moderne team who have, more than generously, hosted this experimental in situ sound adventure over several years. Huge thanks to the entire PRIM team for their support and even more particularly to Bruno Bélanger for listening. The artist thanks the artist centers Avatar and Est-Nord-Est for hosting this research on their premises. She also thanks Georges Azzaria, the director of the School of Art, for his unwavering support. This project received the support – absolutely essential – from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – société et culture (FRQSC).
