Cinemania – At Averroes & Rosa Parks

Snapshots of daily life in two psychiatric units of the same hospital in Val-de-Marne, near Paris, focus on individual meetings between patients and caregivers. Nicolas Philibert films the caregivers with the same love expressed by Agnès Varda towards shopkeepers (Daguerréotypes) and highlights, in this second part of a documentary trilogy on mental health, the almost philosophical purity of the individual patient-caregiver interviews. After exploring therapeutic community in Sur l’Adamant, Philibert now delicately addresses the method of inverse therapy, showcasing his signature style that has made him the most popular contemporary documentary filmmaker in theaters.
