Alex and Noémie, both in their thirties, want a child. But their plans are upset when Alex’s mother, Suzanne, starts acting unpredictably due to a neurodegenerative disorder. To speak of semantic dementia with neither fatalism nor despondency is the challenge in this first Belgium feature film, presented at the Namur French International Film Festival and winner of seven Magritte awards. With great sensitivity, the filmmakers help us discover extraordinary actors. Nonetheless, this luminous tale snubs its nose at sickness and death. The film combines daring visuals with a tone that hovers between humour and poetry. A lovely discovery. – Text written for Cinemania festival
